Emphasis Structures (It was John who called)
Emphasis structures digunakan untuk menekankan bagian tertentu dari kalimat agar terdengar lebih dramatis atau penting. Dalam bahasa Inggris tingkat lanjut, struktur seperti cleft sentences ('It was John who...'), inversion, dan stressing auxiliaries membantu menarik perhatian pada subjek, objek, waktu, tempat, atau tindakan.
Structure:
| Type | Pattern | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Cleft sentence (It was... who/that...) | It + be + emphasised element + who/that + rest of the sentence | It was my brother who broke the window. |
| What-cleft | What + clause + be + emphasised element | What she needs is a break. |
| Auxiliary verb for emphasis | Do/does/did + base verb | He does understand the problem. |
